What To Expect

Initial Assessment

In this session our goal is to get to know you and your unique needs. We begin by identifying the purpose of your visit and what you hope to accomplish through your work with us. The assessment includes a comprehensive discovery of your medical history, weight history, family history, symptoms, dieting history, food preferences, lifestyle, nutrition knowledge, cooking skills, and feelings about food and body. We believe it is essential to establish a thorough understanding of your experiences in order to develop an effective treatment plan that is unique to you.

Follow up Sessions

We believe in personalized treatment for each one of our clients. We prepare for each session by reviewing the client’s objectives, defining an agenda for discussion, and identifying the next steps for treatment. By taking this approach we ensure that we enter every session prepared and determined to provide the most effective support that we can. At the end of each session we review a clear plan for the clients continued action, and make sure that they feel confidently prepared to continue treatment through their own self care.

Insurance

At this time Balance Nutrition Counseling, PLLC does not accept insurance. We are able to provide a superbill (a medical receipt) that may be submitted to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Melissa Giovanni, MS, RDN, LDN is an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. If your insurance benefits cover nutrition-counseling services please ensure that you ask if they cover out-of-network providers. Below are some questions that you can ask your insurance company to find out if our services will be covered.

  • Are nutrition services covered? If so, how many sessions are covered per year?
  • If nutrition services are covered, are they covered if provided by a LDN?
  • Are out-of-network providers/dietitians covered? If not, is it possible to go through a pre-approval process to get coverage?
  • Are there specific medical diseases or diagnosis that are covered by your insurance for nutrition services?
  • What percentage of my nutrition bill is covered by insurance? Is there a co-pay?
  • Do I need a referral or approval from a Primary Care Physician in order to receive nutrition services coverage?
